Introduction Among the various roles Jesus Youth has developed over its history, the animator is one of the least formally defined and, at the same time, one of the most consequential. An animator holds no elected office and casts no vote, yet the quality of a team, a fellowship, or a region is often traced back to the presence or absence of good animation. This note describes what the role is, where it comes from, how it is exercised at different levels of the movement, and what tends to help or harm when it is exercised well or badly. This write-up is offered as an input for reflection rather than a set of instructions.
